Tom is passionate about companies and platforms that help to achieve a more equitable, just society and a sustainable future. He has been an investor and advisor to private and public companies for over 20 years. Until 2021, he was a Managing Director at Berkshire Partners where he co-led the Business Services and Technology group and where he worked for 14 years. Prior to that, he was an investor at General Atlantic and a member of the founding team of the Urban Investment Group at Goldman Sachs, an impact strategy where he began investing in 2001.
In addition to his for-profit activities, Tom chairs the boards of Mighty Earth, an environmental advocacy group focused on the protection of forests and oceans, and Teach for America Massachusetts. He is also the Co-Chair of the Board of Advisors of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
Tom holds an A.B. in Environmental Science and Public Policy from Harvard College and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
